What is Blue Sky Foundation?

Blue Sky is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2021.

Our purpose is to tackle inequality by releasing the full potential of community organisations to uplift and empower their own communities. Our focus is on community trusts holding equity interests in renewable energy projects.

We provide expertise and support to enable community organisations to raise funds for projects that will have a lasting and meaningful impact on their communities.

We accelerate the mobilization of financial and other resources which in turn make it possible to attract other opportunities for under-resourced communities.

Community Organisations

Trusts’ shareholding in renewable energy projects is almost always financed through debt. The terms of these loans are extremely onerous… The result is that trusts spend many years paying off debt before they can do any meaningful work.

Renewable Energy
Companies

Local community development is not part of the core business of renewable energy developers and therefore project companies find the (REIPPP) programme’s requirements challenging.

Funders

If the net projected income of community trusts was structured as equal payments over time, it would represent annual net income of R 1.27 billion per year.
